Welcome!

This blog has been created to offer a platform for exchange of thoughts and ideas of language teachers. So here's my first posting.

I have been working on a Webquest in German today. You can view it here: http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dg2m4bd_1ffdt7rcc&hl=en

. I like the ideas of webquests because, if well designed, they are a good way of presenting learners with a range of different materials and engaging them in various activities. I think a lot can be learnt from surfing foreign websites; learners can learn at their own pace and find out vocabulary they would not normally have found in a textbook. It would be great to hear your views about webquests and their value inside and outside of the classroom!

e-learning

I am very keen to implement some aspects of e-learning into language learning in ACL. We had an interesting discussion in our e-learning workshop as to the value and practicalities of e-learning. I think we all agreed that it is not the answer to everything but can certainly enhance and ensure catering for individual needs. Handouts will become available on the ACRES website shortly. In the meantime, have a look at some of the posts on Nik Peachey's blog and watch some of the video clips created by Russell Stannard.

Bookmarks and favourites!

If you haven't discovered delicious yet, I can only recommend it. It defines itself thus: "Delicious is a social bookmarking service that allows users to tag, save, manage and share web pages from a centralized source". It means that you can export the bookmarks you have on your PC or laptop at home and have these available wherever you go. For example, if you are using a PC in the office or the library, you could access your bookmarks via delicious. As they are centrally stored, it means that you can also share your favourite websites. Here are my favourites.

Resources

I have added four folders to this wiki. All of them contain documents, power point presentations and video, ranging from beginners to advanced level. They are not my own and have been collected and collated from the yahoo mflresources group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mflresources/) I belong to. It is easy to subscribe: yo need a yahoo account (you can create one within minutes) and then follow the joining instructions for this group. It is best to keep this account separate from any other emails you receive, as there are many contributions to this group. I will keep updating the folders - the folder numbers do not relate to the level of language: they are the first folders! All resources are mixed at the moment but it is hoped that these will be grouped more logically in future!
